In this video tutorial you will learn how to build a very basic E-commerce website with Shopify.
Learning Web Development online can be daunting simply because of the fact that there are so many places online to learn web development from. Some are free, some are paid but which ones are the best and which ones are not so great? Well, really it depends on what you are learning and how you apply what you are learning.
If you actual take in what you are learning and apply it any kind of resource online will help you to become a better web developer, and this is the secret to becoming a good web developer. Although I’m going to give you some of my own personal recommendations of what I think the best places to learn web development online are remember this:
“To learn but not to act is to not really learn.”
It’s very important that you take in what you are learning and apply it. Do this and you will have no problem becoming a freelance web developer. It will take some time but you will certainly get there.
So here’s some great places online to kickstart your web development career.
My first recommendation is my personal favorite of course, its also at an amazing price. Treehouse offers high quality web development lessons, tutorials and full blown courses. They even have a tech degree program that will take 12 months to complete and give you an official online web development certificate while building out your skills and portfolio at the same time.
It’s the ultimate resource for learning web development online.
Definitely check these guys out, there are really good. They offer a basic and pro membership plan starting at $25 a month and capping at $50 for the pro membership. Ether or works good the only difference is one gives you a little bit of extra bonus content. Ether way your getting everything you need.
Treehouse is currently offering a 7 day free trial for readers of my blog that you can claim by clicking here.
Skillshare is a platform that I have used before as well as a platform that I currently teach web development courses on. Skillshare is super cheap as well only costing you $10 a month to enroll. Although the quality of the courses are not as good as Treehouse they do offer a lot more variety and sometimes the mini courses on Skillshare are a little bit more easier to digest then the longer ones on Treehouse or Udemy.
Ether way Skillshare is still a great place to learn programming and web development online. Skillshare is offering readers of this blog a discount. You can grab first month for only $1 by clicking here.
Udemy is the very first online course teaching platform that I stumbled upon online. This is essentially where my web development career started. The courses on Udemy are priced a lot higher then anywhere else but if you pay attention to their special deals and sales you can grab high quality courses for a really cheap price.
There are also some really good and in-depth courses on Udemy that teach web development and online programming. Check out the web development category on Udemy by clicking here.
I bet you weren’t expecting me to list YouTube here but on all honestly there is a lot of great content on YouTube and its all FREE. I’m going to do a little bit of self promotion here but my own YouTube Channel offers all kinds of free web development courses, tutorials, and lessons. You can subscribe by clicking here.
There’s pretty much a tutorial on YouTube for everything and programming is very big on this platform. Of course the quality will very here and there but the cream of the crop will generally rise to the top thanks to YouTube’s good ranking system.
Last but not least I’m going to list Amazon here because of the sheer number of low cost Kindle books on the platform for learning web development. Now I will pretty much always recommend you learn web development by watching video content although sometimes books can help as well.
If you would rather prefer to read from paper like I sometimes do check out Job Ducketts HTML and CSS books by clicking here.
Alright that’s it! Now there’s still many more places you could learn web development online but honestly there’s just too many to list here and you don’t want to overload yourself. Pick a platform or two and focus on the courses there one by one.
Remember what I said earlier its important to apply what you are learning as well!
Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comments section below.
Although I usually recommend video courses for learning how to code in some cases reading a book just makes more sense. In fact in general when it comes to learning sometimes I just prefer to read a book. I spend a lot of time during the day at a computer and after a while its nice to just give your eyes a break.
Books can be good for learning web development. In fact one of the best references for learning HTML and CSS was written by Jon Duckett, check it out by clicking here. Of course the quality of the book also makes a big difference but for those times when you just simply don’t have access to a computer or a stable internet connection here is a list of the top 5 web development kindle books to read:
1. WordPress for Beginners 2017: A Visual Step-by-Step Guide to Mastering WordPress
The number one book on this list is WordPress for Beginners. WordPress is a great content management software platform that every web developer needs to learn and master. This book offers a cheap resource that will definitely get you started with WordPress and have you creating your first few websites in no time. Check out on Amazon by clicking here.
2. Learn CSS in One Day and Learn It Well
CSS is a very important language that teaches you how to style a webpage. If you want to make beautiful websites which every client is going to want to have then you are going to learn CSS and master it. Although CSS is a very deep language and it takes a lot of practice to get to the point to where you can make nice looking websites you are going to need to start somewhere.
Start with the basics and work your way up from there. You can grab Learn CSS in One Day off Amazon here.
3. Don’t Make Me Think, Revisited: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability
The number 3 book on this list is quite interesting because it doesn’t teach you exactly how to program per say but it teaches you something that web usability is very important. In fact why do most users leave websites, because they ether can’t find what they are looking for or they don’t like the way the website works.
This is a very important concept to understand and sometimes less is more. This is a great book for anyone who has done a little bit of programming and wants to take their skills to the next level. You can grab it off Amazon by clicking here.
4.The Best WordPress Plugins: 500 Free WP Plugins for Creating an Amazing and Profitable Website
Although this book doesn’t exactly go into very specific details on building websites it does introduce you to plugins that can help make your life as a web developer a heck of a lot more easier. This is also a great book for those just starting out and want to still offer clients a service but maybe your not quite comfortable building a website completely from scratch.
There’s nothing wrong with using a plugin and as you get more experienced as time goes on you will learn more. Check out 500 FREE wp plugins to help you build websites off Amazon by clicking here.
Well, there you have it. These are the best selling Kindle books on Amazon for getting started with web development. Actually to be honest there are many, MANY more, I just picked a few from a very large list. The point isn’t to read as many books as you can the point is to pick a few, work through them and then practice what you learn.
Practicing and applying what you are learning is very important!
